Who will be the next NBA Rookie of the Year after 2019’s Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks). This has been one of the most hyped up NBA Draft classes in awhile with the likes of the Pelicans’s Zion Williamson (Forward), Knicks’s RJ Barrett (Guard/Forward), Grizzlies’s Ja Morant, Cavs’s Darius Garland, and many more players.
Zion Williamson,F,Pelicans-Williamson is the obvious pick as the Pels are building around the most hyped-up prospect since LeBron James. Williamson will score his points, get his rebounds, and get his blocks but because players like Guards Jrue Holiday and Lonzo Ball, and Forward Brandon Ingram, Williamson won’t score enough to win rookie of the year.
RJ Barrett,G-F,Knicks-Barrett could get enough production to win rookie of the year. Barrett can score inside and out at both the high school and college levels. Barrett should be able to do the same at the next level and potentially win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year.
Ja Morant,G,Grizzlies-Despite missing out on the summer league due to a surgery on his knee, Morant will have the keys to the Memphis offense in his rookie year, making his case for rookie of the year pretty favorable.
Darius Garland,G,Cavs-Garland is an excellent scorer but playing beside Guard Collin Sexton and former All-Star Forward Kevin Love, Garland won’t have enough production to win the award.
Michael Porter Jr.,F,Nuggets-Porter missed his entire first season in the NBA and injured his knee again in practice. If Porter is able to get back healthy, Porter should be able to compete for the award. Porter, though, is playing with a top center in the NBA in Nikola Jokic, so probably won’t win the award.
Prediction:Morant should win it because of how he will make everyone better and score because of the lack of talent in Memphis.
