As most expected, Quinn Ewers announced today via twitter that he would be skipping his senior year at Southlake Carrol (TX) HS. The top rated player according to 247sports is set to enroll at Ohio State and enroll for fall camp that begins tomorrow in Columbus. He is now the number one player in 247sports’ 2021 player rankings following his reclassification. The highly-touted QB committed to Ohio State on November 19 following a decommitment from Texas. He will be able to profit off his name, image and likeness as an Ohio State quarterback, something he would not have been able to do if he remained in high school due to Texas’ recent state legislation on NIL. Since being rated as one of the only 1.0000 in 247sports composite history and the highest rated since former Texas QB Vince Young, he and Southlake Caroll lost to fellow QB Cade Klubnik (no. 32 ranked player in the 2022 247sports composite) and Austin Westlake in the Texas State Championship last season. Klubnik also defeated Quinn Ewers at the Opening and Elite 11, taking the title from him there. But, even if he loses those competitions and games, it is hard to worry as an Ohio State fan. In addition to Ewers redshirt freshmen CJ Stroud and Jack Miller and true freshmen Kyle McCord make up one of the most talented QB rooms just based off of recruiting rankings in college football history. It is not expected that Ewers will see playing time let alone start in 2021, just to start the learning curve of becoming a college quarterback.
