Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)

4.Ohio State at. Minnesota (Thursday, 8 PM ET, FOX)
Ohio State has been on top of the Big Ten for years now. Historically, beating Ohio State requires good quarterback play and tremendous defense. Hard to see the Golden Gophers knocking off the Buckeyes. Projected Score: Ohio State 45, Minnesota 24

10.North Carolina at. Virginia Tech (Friday, 6 PM ET, ESPN)
Mack Brown has UNC back where he once had them during his first tenure in Chapel Hill, having the Tar Heels winning football games. It will be a tough test to open the season on the road versus Virginia Tech. Tar Heel QB Sam Howell returns and should lead the Tar Heels to many victories including this one. Projected Score: North Carolina 31, Virginia Tech 20

2.Oklahoma at. Tulsa (Saturday, 12 PM ET, ABC)
Oklahoma’s high-powered offense should dominate Tulsa. Projected Score: Oklahoma 56, Tulane 6

19.Wisconsin at. 12.Penn State (Saturday, 12 PM ET, FOX)
One of multiple Big Ten match ups to open the year, Wisconsin and Penn State look to have rebound seasons in 2021. Quarterback play will be the determining factor in this one. Projected Score: Penn State 21, Wisconsin 17

17.Indiana at. 18.Iowa (Saturday, 3:30 PM ET, BTN)
Iowa has two tough tests to open the year, first versus Indiana then a trip to Ames to take on Iowa State. Indiana returns QB Michael Penix Jr. and should have a great defense under Tom Allen yet again. This will be a close one. Projected Score: Iowa 28, Indiana 24

1.Alabama at. 14.Miami (Saturday, 3:30 PM ET, ABC)
Alabama should dominate Miami, despite a young offense and new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. Projected Score: Alabama 49, Miami 21

23.Louisiana at. 21.Texas (Saturday, 4:30 PM ET, FOX)
Texas and Louisiana meet in Austin, in a match up of two top-25 teams. Bill Napier is not going to let new Texas coach Steve Sarkisian kill his Ragin Cajun’s, just a year after defeating Big 12 runner-up Iowa State to open the 2020 season. Projected Score: Louisiana 35, Texas 31

5.Georgia vs. 3.Clemson (Saturday, 7:30 PM ET, ABC)
Easily the most hyped up game of the season, Georgia and Clemson will meet in a potential College Football Playoff Preview. This game will be decided by quarterback play. Georgia’s JT Daniels and Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei will battle and try to get their team’s back to the CFP. This game is hard for me to pick just because of how talented both teams are. But until Georgia wins a big game, I am going with the tigers. Projected Score: Clemson 38, Georgia 34

9.Notre Dame at. Florida State (Sunday, 7:30 PM ET, ABC)
Notre Dame, despite losing a lot to the NFL in 2020, should handle an improving Florida State. But as Lee Corso would say, this game is going to be “closer than the experts think”. Projected Score: Notre Dame 42, Florida State 31

Louisville vs. Ole Miss (Atlanta) (Monday, 8 PM ET, ESPN)
This game is interesting. Ole Miss’ offense is elite but its defense is awful. Louisville has average offensive and defensive units. Ole Miss should win but it won’t be as easy as many optimist’s think. Projected Score: Ole Miss 49, Louisville 28
