James chooses 76ers over Cavaliers and Warriors
PHILADELPHIA — LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option. In a post on X, the 41-year-old said he felt he was done at the end of the season and needed time to evaluate his future.

James is now chasing a fifth NBA championship with his fourth team after previous stops with the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers. He also has a chance to help end Philadelphia’s 43-year title drought, much like he did for Cleveland when he led the Cavaliers to the 2016 NBA Finals after a 52-year wait.

In his 23rd season and eighth with Los Angeles, James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 51.5% from the field and 31.7% from three-point range. He joins a revamped 76ers core that includes Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe after Philadelphia’s first-round upset of the No. 2 seed Celtics.

With James in the mix, the 76ers are positioned to contend in the East and could emerge as a favorite for the 2027 NBA championship. At 41 and entering a record-setting 24th season, this may be the final free agency decision of his career.
