2021-2022 cbhsports College Basketball Weekend Preview (3/4-3/6)

AP Top 6
1.Gonzaga 24-3 (13-1)
2.Arizona 25-3 (15-2)
3.Baylor 25-5 (13-4)
4.Duke 25-4 (15-3)
5.Auburn 25-4 (13-3)
6.Kansas 23-5 (12-3)

Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)
14.Arkansas at. 13.Tennessee (Saturday, 12 PM ET, ESPN)
Among the top four teams in the SEC, home teams are 65-1 this season (the one loss is Arkansas’ in early January against Vanderbilt). Whoever wins this game will have a shot at apart of the SEC crown with both having wins over Auburn, who has already clinched apart of the SEC title, and sits at . Arkansas (13-4 in the SEC) defeated Tennessee (13-4 in the SEC) 58-48 in Bud Walton Arena two weeks ago. But Tennessee is 17-0 at Thompson-Boiling Arena this season. Arkansas has wins over Auburn, Kentucky, and LSU during their run of fourteen wins in their last fifteen games as well as their most recent win over LSU 77-76. Tennessee themselves is winners of three straight, defeating last place Georgia 75-68. It is going to be an incredible game, that is all I know. Projected Score: Tennessee 70, Arkansas 69
21.Texas at. 6.Kansas (Saturday, 4 PM ET, ESPN)
Kansas has struggled as of late. Kansas has lost two out of their last three games to Baylor and TCU and have lost their standing as a one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Texas, despite a loss to Baylor on Monday, has gotten wins over West Virginia and TCU since their last loss to Texas Tech. In their first meeting, Texas upset Kansas 79-76. This could be a perfect situation for Kansas, though, as they get a senior day match up in Phog Allen to sure up a top two seed in the Big 12 Tournament next week (or potentially winning a share of the Big 12 Regular Season Championship). Projected Score: Kansas 80, Texas 74
North Carolina at. 4.Duke (Saturday, 6 PM ET, ESPN)
I previewed this game in a full post, if you want to check it out. Projected Score: Duke 92, North Carolina 80
16.USC at. 17.UCLA (Saturday, 10 PM ET, ESPN)
With the LA rivals coming into the game both at 14-6, a win for either team would put them as the two seed in next week’s Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas. USC will need production from big man Isaiah Mobley (14 points, 9 rebounds per game) but with UCLA at home, it would be huge for UCLA to get revenge on the Trojans and grab another quad one win for their resume. UCLProjectA point guard Tyger Campbell (12 points and 4 assists per game) and wing Johnny Juzang (17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists per game) will need to be at their best to get a win for the Bruins. Projected Score: UCLA 76, USC 71

Carolina-Duke 2: A preview

North Carolina at. 4.Duke
Cameron Indoor Stadium (Durham,NC)
Saturday March 5, 6 PM ET
ESPN

Since 1920, college basketball’s best rivalry game has been North Carolina versus Duke. There is no doubt about it. To make things even more interesting, Duke coach Mike Krzyewski’s final regular season game is finally here, set for Saturday, 6 PM ET on ESPN against the Tar Heels. It should be a fun one in Durham for one final regular season showdown.

North Carolina comes in at 22-8 overall and 14-5 in the ACC. Duke, who has already clinched the ACC regular season title at 26-4 (16-3) in the ACC, could put themselves in even better contention for a one seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament with a win over Carolina. Both teams’ inside out play will be crucial to this game. Potential top five picks Paolo Banchero (17 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists per game) and AJ Griffin (10 points and 4 rebounds per game) headline Duke’s first ACC regular championship team since 2010. North Carolina will need star big man Armando Bacot (16 points and 13 rebounds per game) as well as guards Caleb Love (16 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds per game) and RJ Davis (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists per game) will have to get going if the Tar Heels want to avenge their 87-67 loss at the hands of the Blue Devils last month. The Tar Heels should definitely play better against the Blue Devils than they did a month ago but in Coach K’s final regular season appearance against North Carolina, he should improve his 22-18 record against them in front of his home crowd.

Projected Score: Duke 92, North Carolina 80

2021-2022 cbhsports College Basketball Weekend Preview (2/25-2/27)

Image Courtesy: The Dallas Morning News

AP Top 6
1.Gonzaga 24-2 (13-0)
2.Arizona 25-2 (15-1)
3.Auburn 25-3 (13-2)
4.Purdue 24-4 (13-4)
5.Kansas 23-4 (12-2)
6.Kentucky 23-5 (12-3)

Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)
4.Purdue at. Michigan State (Saturday, 12 PM ET, ESPN)
Purdue faces a well-coached Michigan State team that has not been successful much of late (2-4 this month). Purdue should use star guard Jaden Ivey (17 points, 5 rebounds per game) and its tough front court to defeat the Spartans. Projected Score: Purdue 77, Michigan State 68
6.Kentucky at. 18.Arkansas (Saturday, 2 PM ET, CBS)
As an Arkansa fan that will be in attendance, there is little to say about this game. The recent play of 2021 March Madness star Devo Davis and big man Jaylin Williams has led the hogs to wins in twelve out of their last thirteen games including then number one Auburn, a tough Tennessee team, and then number twelve ranked LSU. Kentucky boasts likely national player of the year Oscar Tshiebwe who has only had two games with less than ten rebounds as well as phenomenal guards Sahvir Wheeler and Tyty Washington. Projected Score: Kentucky 85, Arkansas 80
3.Auburn at. 17.Tennessee (Saturday, 4 PM ET, ESPN)
Auburn and Tennessee suffered losses last Saturday, so a rebound week is needed for both squads. Freshman sensation Kennedy Chandler and senior Santiago Vescovi look to give Auburn its second loss in three games. Potential top pick in the NBA Draft Jabari Smith needs a big game for Auburn to go into Knoxville and get a win. Projected Score: Auburn 76, Tennessee 71
5.Kansas at. 10.Baylor (Saturday, 8 PM ET, ESPN)
Kansas and Baylor square off in the second of two match ups this season. The Jayhawks demolished the Bears back on February 5 with many of Baylor’s top players out. If Kansas led by Ochai Agbaji (20.2 points, 5.2 rebounds per game) can win in Waco over James Akinjo (13 points, 6 assists per game), Adam Flagler (14 points, 3 assists pe game), then they will be one seed material to me. Projected Score: Baylor 82, Kansas 81
1.Gonzaga at. 23.Saint Mary’s (Saturday, 10 PM ET, ESPN)
The top two teams in the West Coast battle for the second time this season. The Zags defeated the Gaels 66-53 over a week ago and need potential top pick in the NBA Draft Chet Holmgren and experienced senior big Drew Timme to have big games to pick up another win in conference by double digits. The Gaels win would likely give Arizona a chance to be seen as many as the projected number one overall seed in the tournament, but many think it would take two losses for the Zags to be removed from the top line. Projected Score: Gonzaga 80, Saint Mary’s 69

4.Kentucky 21-4 (10-2)

Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)

25.Alabama at. 4.Kentucky (Saturday, 1 PM ET, CBS)
12.Illinois at. 19.Michigan State (Saturday, 2:30 PM ET, FOX)
16.Tennessee at. 23.Arkansas (Saturday, 4 PM ET, ESPN)
Oregon at. 3.Arizona (Saturday, 10 PM ET, ESPN)
ESPN’s College GameDay heads to Tucson for a huge match up in the Pac-12. Oregon enters the week third in the Pac-12. Two wins over Oregon State and Oregon at home would put them in great standing following a questionable loss to California last week at home. Arizona is one of the best coached teams in the country, led by first head coach Tommy Lloyd. An upset could be brewing but it would not take the wildcats out of first in the Pac-12. Projected Score: Arizona 77, Oregon 74

2022 cbhsports Super Bowl 56 Preview

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Los Angeles Rams
February 13, 6:30 PM ET, NBC
SoFi Stadium (Inglewood)

Tomorrow, Super Bowl 56 will kick off right now at this time. Of course, it is time to preview the game right here, right now.

Los Angeles, despite playing in their own stadium, will wear their away white jerseys tomorrow. Rams QB Matt Stafford made it to the Super Bowl in his first season after the trade from the Detroit Lions. Stafford gets it to 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp and fellow receiver Odell Beckham Jr. a frequent amount. Stafford and Beckham are appearing in their first Super Bowl. The passing game is not much of a concern for the Rams, but establishing the run game with young backs Cam Akers and Sony Michel will definitely help LA win this game. But their defense is what will truly win this game. Edge rushers Leonard Floyd, Von Miller, and one of if not the best game breakers in NFL at the defensive tackle position, Aaron Donald. Those three as well as top defensive back Jalen Ramsey will make it tough for Bengals QB Joe Burrow and the red hot Cincinnati offense. Burrow’s favorite target is 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year (and Joe’s former LSU teammate) Ja’Marr Chase. Fellow receivers Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, and talented veteran tight end CJ Uzomah, will challenge a Rams defense that is as talented as they come. Cincinnati’s run game is led by running back Joe Mixon, one of the must underrated in the league. Also underrated is the Cincinnati defense. The Bengals held the then red hot Kansas City offense to just three points in the second half of the AFC Championship. After losing the coin toss in overtime, the Bengals defense picked Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Cincinnati won a game-winning field goal from rookie kicker Evan McPherson.

It should be a fun one from SoFi, here’s my prediction:

Rams 34, Bengals 31

2021-2022 cbhsports College Basketball Weekend Preview (2/11-2/13)

AP Top 6
1.Auburn 22-2 (10-1)
2.Gonzaga 20-2 (9-0)
3.Purdue 21-4 (10-4)
4.Arizona 21-2 (11-1)
5.Kentucky 20-4 (9-2)
6.Houston 20-3 (9-1)

Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)
17.Connecticut at. 21.Xavier (Friday, 7 PM ET, FS1)
Coming off of a loss to Villanova, UConn needs to pick up a win in Cleveland over Xavier. Projected Score: Connecticut 74, Xavier 68
Texas A&M at. 1.Auburn (Saturday, 12 PM ET, ESPN)
ESPN’s College GameDay heads to the plains for the match up between top ranked Auburn and struggling Texas A&M. A&M is still a pretty good team but it will be a tough road trip for the Aggies to win. Auburn’s loss to Arkansas should be a major wake-up call. Projected Score: Auburn 87, Texas A&M 70
20.Texas at. 10.Baylor (Saturday, 12 PM ET, ESPN2)
Baylor got absolutely destroyed by Kansas on Saturday and could use a top 25 win to get themselves back on the right track. Texas is a good team but a mad Baylor team should get it done on Saturday. Projected Score: Baylor 77, Texas 72
Memphis at. 6.Houston (Saturday, 3:30 PM ET, ABC)
The underperforming Memphis Tigers head to Houston to face a Kelvin Sampson-led team playing at a high level. Projected Score: Houston 84, Memphis 70
12.UCLA at. 21.USC (Saturday, 10 PM ET, ESPN)
UCLA went 0-2 on the road against the Arizona schools last weekend but should get back on the right track against USC. Projected Score: UCLA 85, USC 82
Saint Mary’s at. 2.Gonzaga (Saturday, 10 PM ET, ESPN2)
The top two teams in the West Coast Conference will battle it out on Saturday night. Gonzaga is undefeated in the WCC while Saint Mary’s has two losses. This would be a huge upset for Saint Mary’s and would propel them to a game back in the West Coast Standings. Projected Score: Gonzaga 92, Saint Mary’s 85

Muss Buss enters huge stretch

Following an eight game win streak, Arkansas enters one of the toughest eight game stretches of any team in the country.

Here’s the last eight games of the hogs’ SEC slate:

1.Auburn (2/8)
In what seems like it should be a prime time ESPN game, the hogs play host to Auburn on Tuesday night on ESPN2. Auburn is a team that uses their front court, led by Walker Kessler and Jabari Smith to fuel their team to wins. Projected Score: Auburn 85, Arkansas 81

at.Alabama (2/12)
No matter the record, Alabama is one of if not the most talented team in the SEC. The trip to Tuscaloosa for the hogs could be its toughest in the second half of the schedule. Projected Score: Alabama 77, Arkansas 73

at.Missouri (2/15)
Arkansas demolished Missouri 87-43, which began their eight game winning streak. The hogs should expect a much bigger challenge when it heads to Columbia, playing a team led by talented forward Kobe Brown. Projected Score: Arkansas 75, Missouri 64

22.Tennessee (2/19)
In the first of two match-ups between the Vols and Hogs, it seems like a must win for Arkansas’ NCAA Tournament resume. Arkansas will have to contain guards Kennedy Chandler and Santiago Vescovi to get the win. Projected Score: Arkansas 72, Tennessee 68

at.Florida (2/22)
Arkansas has not beat Florida in Gainesville since 1995 and will look to change that against Jacksonville (AR) High School graduate Tyree Appleby. With the much improved play of Arkansas big man Jaylin Williams, he should be up to the task of defending talented Florida big Colin Castleton. Projected Score: Arkansas 73, Florida 72

5.Kentucky (2/26)
Kentucky, led by likely national player of the year Oscar Tsheibwe and talented guards Sahvir Wheeler and Tyty Washington could very well run the hogs out of the building. But, something tells me playing in Bud Walton will challenge a Kentucky team that hasn’t seen many teams like Arkansas’ big starting lineup. Projected Score: Kentucky 83, Arkansas 70

25.LSU (3/2)
Less than a month ago, LSU was ranked in the top fifteen in the country and were up by as many as twelve points on the Razorbacks in the two teams’ first meeting. Then, a late Arkansas run gave them a loss, of course, and jump started a run where the tigers have lost five of their last six games. LSU has been without point guard Xavier Pinson but with him back, Arkansas is going to have to be ready to handle a much better basketball team. Projected Score: Arkansas 83, LSU 81

at.22.Tennessee (3/5)
Arkansas finishes the regular season in Knoxville to face Tennessee for the second time in three weeks. Playing in Knoxville is always difficult, so many could see the hogs losing this one. Projected Score: Tennessee 78, Arkansas 70

Projected Final Record: 23-8 (11-7)

Nephew of Peyton, Eli Manning down to four schools

The top player in the 2023 class per 247sports, QB Arch Manning is reportedly down to four schools for his college choice. Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas are the finalists for his services. The nephew of Super Bowl winning QBs Peyton and Eli Manning, has removed Clemson from his list of schools and will look to make a decision soon.

2021-2022 cbhsports College Basketball Weekend Preview (2/4-2/6)

AP Top 6
1.Auburn 21-1 (9-0)
2.Gonzaga 18-2 (7-0)
3.UCLA 16-3 (8-2)
4.Purdue 19-3 (8-3)
5.Kentucky 18-4 (7-2)
6.Houston 18-2 (8-0)

Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)
17.Connecticut at. 12.Villanova (Saturday, 12 PM ET, FOX)
As Providence and Marquette ascend to the top of the Big East, a struggling Villanova by its standards play host to a Connecticut team having its best season in awhile. Villanova needs this win and should hope to get it. Projected Score: Villanova 74, Connecticut 70
8.Baylor at. 10.Kansas (Saturday, 4 PM ET, ESPN)
A huge match up for first place in the Big 12 takes center stage (maybe behind Duke-Carolina) on a huge weekend of college basketball. Baylor will need to play through guard James Akinjo while Kansas has multiple guys that can beat you. Projected Score: Baylor 80, Kansas 77
7.Arizona at. 19.USC (Saturday, 5 PM ET, FOX)
Following the win over UCLA, Arizona heads from Westwood to USC, where big man Isaiah Mobley has dominated all season. Arizona, led by coach Tommy Lloyd have outplayed everyone’s expectations this season in year one of his tenure. A win for the Wildcats would put them back in the top 3 of the AP Poll and seen as a one seed. Projected Score: Arizona 79, USC 72
9.Duke at. North Carolina (Saturday, 6 PM ET, ESPN)
In Coach K’s final game in Chapel Hill, Duke (8-2) is leading the ACC. North Carolina (8-3) is just a half game behind the Duke and could absolutely ruin Mike’s final time in the Dean Dome by upsetting the Blue Devils. Projected Score: Duke 83, North Carolina 79
5.Kentucky at. Alabama (Saturday, 8 PM ET, ESPN)
Kentucky has been red hot as of late with a tremendous win over Kansas a week ago. They head to Tuscaloosa to face an Alabama team that is one of if not the most inconsistent in the country. The Tide have wins over top fifteen ranked Gonzaga, Houston, and Baylor (last weekend) but losses to Davidson (who is a top 25 team in the country but it’s still not a great loss), Iona, a struggling Memphis team, and SEC bottom dweller Georgia. So, Alabama still could very well upset the Wildcats but it will take everything boxing out Kentucky center Oscar Tshiebwe and containing guards Sahvir Wheeler and Tyty Washington. Projected Score: Kentucky 85, Alabama 74
2.Gonzaga at. BYU (Saturday, 10 PM ET, TBD)
Gonzaga is always tested by BYU and Saturday’s trip to Provo should be no different. Gonzaga will need phenomenal play from National Player of the Year contender Drew Timme if the Bulldogs want to win. Projected Score: Gonzaga 87, BYU 83

Key dates for Arkansas football announced

On this snowy day in Arkansas, some important dates were announced for the always-improving Arkansas football program.

March 13- The start of spring practice (15 practices, all spread out)
March 21-25- Spring Break
April 16- Open practice for fans to attend (Hogfest at 8 AM, Practice at 11 AM, could fill in for “Red-White” game)
September 16-18- Family weekend (Hogs play former coach Bobby Petrino and Missouri State that weekend)
November 5- Homecoming (Hogs play Liberty led by former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze)
There is no game scheduled in Little Rock for 2022.

Sam Pittman and the hogs did not sign any players during the late signing period because they signed their entire class during the early period in December. The one guy that was expected to sign with Arkansas was four star safety Myles Rowser. However, due to unknown off the field issues, Rowser signed with FCS Campbell over the hogs. Because of it, the hogs dropped to the ninth ranked class in the SEC but still a consensus top 30 class in the country for 2022.

way-too-early 2022-2023 cbhsports ESPN College GameDay Weekly Predictions

Hey guys, here are my official 2022 weekly College GameDaypredictions. Keep in mind that College GameDay will likely choose an ESPN or ABC game over a CBS or FOX game because it is on an ESPN show. I will also list a potential runner-up for each week, that GameDay might choose. I will likely release an updated list in a few months.

August 27
Northwestern vs. Nebraska (Ireland)
Runner-Up: Vanderbilt at. Hawaii
Easy pick for GameDay, as Nebraska-Northwestern in Ireland is the best game of the weekend.

September 3
Oregon vs. Georgia (Atlanta)
Runner-Up: Notre Dame at. Ohio State
I could 100% change my pick here, but heading to the reigning national champion’s backyard against its former defensive coordinator (who is now Oregon’s head coach, Dan Lanning) is too much to pass up as the likely primetime ABC game.

September 10
Alabama at. Texas
Runner-Up: South Carolina at. Arkansas
When Alabama heads to Austin to face future SEC foe Texas, they play former offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, who is now the head coach at Texas, GameDay will 100% head to Austin, as reigning Heisman winner Bryce Young faces Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers at QB.

September 17
Penn State at. Auburn
Runner-Up: BYU at. Oregon
GameDay should head to this game for the second consecutive year. It is a huge Big Ten-SEC battle between the Tigers and Nittany lions.

September 24
Texas A&M vs. Arkansas (Arlington)
Runner-Up: Florida at. Tennessee
This season should finally be Texas A&M’s season to make a playoff push and Arkansas should keep improving under Sam Pittman.

October 1
Michigan at. Iowa
Runner-Up: Kentucky at. Ole Miss
Assuming head coach Jim Harbaugh stays at Michigan, the Big Ten championship rematch from Iowa City will have many eyes of the college football world.

October 8
Texas A&M at. Alabama
Runner-Up: Texas vs. Oklahoma (Dallas)
With the Red River Rivalry the same weekend as Alabama-Texas A&M. The potential de facto SEC West title ended in an upset win for A&M in College Station, the lone win for a former Saban assistant (Jimbo Fisher0 over the Tide.

October 15
USC at. Utah
Runner-Up: Penn State at. Michigan
As Lincoln Riley has dominated the recruiting trail since leaving Oklahoma for USC, Utah has flown under the radar as the team to beat in the Pac-12. Utah’s defense loses a lot but their offense (which scored 45 in a Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State), should be just fine as it faces Caleb Williams (the former Oklahoma QB) and the Trojans.

October 22
Iowa at. Ohio State
Runner-Up: UCLA at. Oregon
Iowa needs to find an offensive identity if it wants to beat Ohio State as Heisman favorite CJ Stroud and receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba return after absolutely tormenting the Utah defense for 48 points in the Rose Bowl.

October 29
Michigan State at. Michigan
Runner-Up: Georgia vs. Florida (Jacksonville)
GameDay went to East Lansing for this game last year and it ended in a Michigan State come from behind win, 37-33. Of course, Michigan still made the CFP, but this is the easy pick for this week.

November 5
Clemson at. Notre Dame
Runner-Up: Alabama at. LSU
If LSU returns to even near where they were at in 2019, GameDay could head to Baton Rouge. But a trip to South Bend for Rece, Kirk, Lee, and Desmond should be in the cards as Clemson faces Notre Dame.

November 12
Alabama at. Ole Miss
Runner-Up: Wisconsin at. Iowa
Matt Corral may be gone for Ole Miss but USC transfer Jaxson Dart should take over the reins at QB for the Rebels. Reigning heisman winner Bryce Young should lead a young Alabama offense that could be even better than a season ago, and Alabama’s defense can only get better with linebacker Will Anderson returning.

November 19
Oklahoma State at. Oklahoma
Runner-Up: USC at. UCLA
Bedlam should be in full force despite Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley’s departure to USC. New coach Brent Venables will look to keep Oklahoma State from coming in and stealing one in Norman.

November 26
Michigan at. Ohio State
Runner-Up: Auburn at. Alabama
If Michigan-Ohio State is as good as it was last season, the crew should be right back in Columbus. Michigan may not be nearly as good on defense as it was in 2021, but its offense, led by QB JJ McCarthy should be the part. Ohio State is, of course, loaded on offense, and should get revenge on the Wolverines from last season.

December 3
2022 SEC Championship
Runner-Up: 2022 ACC Championship
The winner of this game usually wins the national championship, so this is an easy pick.

December 10
Navy vs. Army (Philadelphia)
Runner-Up: N/A
The only pick for this week, Army-Navy.

6.Purdue 16-3 (5-3)

Key games this weekend (Rankings based off of AP Poll)
Oklahoma at. 1.Auburn (Saturday, 2 PM ET, ESPN)
Auburn needs Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler to continue playing well to continue being ranked number one. Both of them should play well and Auburn should be challenged, at least a little bit by Porter Moser’s team. Projected Score: Auburn 82, Oklahoma 70
4.Baylor at. Alabama (Saturday, 4 PM ET, ESPN)
While Alabama has been inconsistent, including a loss to SEC bottom-feeder Georgia on Tuesday, but they have beaten top ten teams Gonzaga and Houston. To stay in line with Kansas at the top of the Big 12, Baylor needs to win this game. Projected Score: Baylor 81, Alabama 78
12.Kentucky at.5.Kansas (Saturday, 6 PM ET, ESPN)
ESPN’s College GameDay crew heads out to Lawrence for its first road show of the season. Kentucky and Kansas are yet again contenders for the top of their respective conferences and the winner will come out with a resume-defining win. Projected Score: Kansas 81, Kentucky 80

ESPN’s Vitale will not return to booth this season

Beloved ESPN College Basketball Analyst Dickie V will not call any more games this season, he announced.
