CWS:Four SEC Teams headed to Omaha

Four SEC Teams (2.Vanderbilt, 5.Arkansas, 6.Mississippi State, and unseeded Auburn) all reached the 2019 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Arkansas headlined the bunch last year by being an out away from the college world series championship before losing two straight games. Mississippi State also made it to Omaha last season. The other big headline is that in his final season as head coach, unseeded Florida State made it to Omaha, as one of two ACC teams in the mix. Unseeded Michigan upset top seed UCLA in game three in Los Angeles. 8.Texas Tech beat out 9.Oklahoma State to reach Omaha for the second straight season. Louisville swept East Carolina to become the first team to puch their ticket. Vanderbilt had to win two straight after losing game one to unseeded Duke in Nashville to punch their ticket. 6.Mississippi State swept 11.Stanford to punch their ticket. Auburn battled 14.North Carolina to get out of Chapel Hill in three games to get to Omaha.

Here are the first round games of a double elimination tournament.

NBA News:KD playing in game five, Tony Parker retiring

Golden State Warriors Forward Kevin Durant will play for the first time since a right calf strain on May 8. Durant practiced with his teammates for the first time since being hurt, this previous Sunday. Facing a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, Durant will be key for the Warriors as they try to bring the series back to Oakland for a game six, but if not their season is done.

Former San Antonio Spurs Point Guard Tony Parker told The Undefeated that he would be retiring from the game of basketball stating that “I can’t be Tony Parker anymore.” Parker won four NBA Championships under Greg Popovich as a San Antonio Spur. In 2007, he won NBA Finals MVP. For his career, Parker averaged almost sixteen points for game, almost six assists, and three rebounds per game. Parker played his final season as a Charlotte Hornet after leaving San Antonio last summer.

America’s FIBA World Cup roster was announced today. Greg Popovich will be the head coach. The roster was headlined by 2018 NBA MVP James Harden (Guard,Houston Rockets), Anthony Davis (Forward/Center,New Orleans Pelicans), Kemba Walker (Guard,Free Agent), and Damian Lillard (Guard, Portland Trail Blazers). Other key pieces on the team are wings CJ McCollum (Portland Trail Blazers), Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), Khris Middelton (Free Agent), Harrison Barnes (Sacramento Kings), and Eric Gordon (Houston Rockets). Point Guard Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors) also joins the fold. Joining Davis in the big man rotation is Kevin Love (Cleveland Cavaliers), Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons), Tobias Harris (Free Agent), and Myles Turner (Indiana Pacers). Popovich added six new players who have never played on the national team who are a mix of veterans and young players. Rising stars Donovan Mitchell (Guard,Utah Jazz), Jayson Tatum (Forward, Boston Celtics), Kyle Kuzma (Forward, LA Lakers). Popovich also added veteran big men PJ Tucker (Houston Rockets), Brook Lopez (Milwaukee Bucks), and Paul Millsap (Free Agent) to the team.

Where Kemba Walker could end up

Like I did with this summer’s top free agent point guard (Kyrie Irving), today we look at the options for star point guard Kemba Walker, who has been living in a losing world since being drafted by Charlotte.

Charlotte Hornets:If Kemba Walker decides to stay, its on him. This is unlikely but don’t be surprised if Kemba returns to the team that drafted him. Enough said.

New York Knicks:If Kyrie doesn’t end up in New York, Kemba will likely return to his hometown and play for the Knicks, most likely teaming up with the likes of stars like potentially Jimmy Butler or Kevin Durant. Kemba would not go to New York if Kyrie chose to join another superstar here.

Los Angeles Clippers:If Kemba goes to LA, he can make the Clips a legit competitior to get to the second round of the playoffs. Walker would team up with a young team featuring veteran forward Danillo Gallinari to help lead this team back to the playoffs.

Los Angeles Lakers:The Lakers are in the conversation for every top free agent due to them being in a big market and having LeBron James. Don’t count the Lakers out of Walker’s suitors. Kemba Walker would give the Lakers another excellent scorer who wouldn’t have to be a primary defender because of Lonzo Ball’s defensive ability.

Indiana Pacers:Joining Victor Oladipo and a young Indiana Pacers team wouldn’t be bad for Walker. In a wide-open eastern conference behind Milwaukee, Toronto, and Philadelphia, Kemba can help give that push that Indiana needs to ge to the later rounds of the playoffs.

Prediction:Indiana Pacers. Kemba won’t have to deal with a tough western conference as I don’t think he wants to. Indiana will give him the primary scorer role and he can step back when Victor is the lead guard. All in all, it sounds like the best place for Kemba Walker.

College Basketball News:Former UNC Guard is headed to South Carolina

There has been lots of news coming out of college basketball this week so let’s put it into one post.

Three-year North Carolina Guard Seventh Woods has announced he is transferring to South Carolina for his final year of eligibility after he sits a year out in the 2019-2020 season. South Carolina was the obvious favorite for Woods after he announced he was entering the portal, as he is from Columbia,South Carolina originally and that the Gamecocks were second in the running for him out of high school.

The NCAA announced that they would be moving the three-point line back for the 2019-2020 season. They will be moving it back to where the international players shoot it from at 22 feet, 1 3/4 inches. This will be in effect for division one ball but not for division two and three until 2020-2021.

Former McDonald’s All-American Jordan Brown has announced he will be heading to Arizona. Brown announced he was entering the transfer portal and possibly leaving Nevada in April after former Nevada Head Coach Eric Musselman took the Arkansas Head Coaching position. Brown picked Arizona over Arizona State and Saint Mary’s.

Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski offered a walk on to his grandson Michael Savorino. Savorino will be joining the program in 2019-2020.

Even though it wasn’t this week, former “Fab Five” member Juwan Howard of the 1990s Michigan team was announced as the replacement for longtime Head Coach John Belein, who took the Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coaching gig in the NBA. Howard was very emotional in his introduction and couldn’t wait to do great things with the program. Howard is now a former assistant of the Miami Heat, where he was a player and coach throught the 2010s.

What Kyrie Irving’s free agency could look like (and where he might land)

If Kyrie Irving declines his player option, Irving would be an unrestricted free agent this summer, with multiple suitors. Let’s take a look at the teams that have the best shot at landing the star point guard.

Boston Celtics:If Kyrie decides to return to Boston, which is very unlikely if he doesn’t accept his player option, then Boston will have to find another legit star to pair with him. If they can get the Anthony Davis deal done, Irving would definitely be open to staying longterm in Boston.

Brooklyn Nets:This is where Kyrie will most likely go. A big market and a stable franchise. Unlike their cross-city rivals (New York Knicks), the Nets have built a nice supporting cast to developing guard De’Angelo Russell. Irving could fit right in and make this team a legit conference semifinals or even conference finals contenders.

LA Lakers:Teaming back up with his old partner LeBron James could be great or it could be the worst thing to ever happen. Kyrie left LeBron so he could be the star or the focus of the team (offensively mostly) but now that LeBron is just pretty much a playmaker, things could work out for Ky and LeBron the second time through. Plus, they would be able to attract another star free agent to LA and get Kyrie and LeBron another chance at getting past Golden State.

New York Knicks:If free agent Kevin Durant comes to the Knicks, there is a chance that Kyrie Irving does as well. They have voiced that playing together is an option and what better way to do it than head to the basketball mekkah Madison Square Garden. In the eastern conference, Kyrie would have a shot to keep getting into the Finals without having to go through Golden State or LeBron.

My pick:Nets. The Brooklyn Nets made a move yesterday to clear cap space for Kyrie Irving. Irving will expand his brand in Brooklyn and have a shot at titles in the eastern conference.

Looking at a trade offer each Anthony Davis suitor can make

Here is a trade offer each Anthony Davis suitor (LA Lakers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and LA Clippers) can make.

Boston Celtics:
Boston Receives:PF/C Anthony Davis
New Orleans Receives:SF Gordon Hayward, G Marcus Smart, G Jaylen Brown

Boston gets rid of Gordon Hayward’s huge salary of $32.7 million when they got him in the summer of 2017. It would be great if the Celts didn’t have to give up any assets that are picks and they do that by getting rid of Marcus Smart’s $12.5 million and Jaylen Brown’s $6.5 million to get a top player in the NBA to potentially lure star point guard Kyrie Irving to stay.

Los Angeles Clippers:
LAC Receives:PF/C Anthony Davis
New Orleans Receives:C Montrezl Harrell, F Danillo Gallinari, Two future first round picks

To make this deal work, the Clippers will have to throw in Danilo Gallinari’s $21.6 million salary. Both players will be able to help the frontcourt production as Anthony Davis heads to LA.

Los Angeles Lakers:
LAL Receives:PF/C Anthony Davis
New Orleans Receives:G Lonzo Ball, F Kyle Kuzma, F Brandon Ingram, 2019 4th pick

This might be the best trade package that New Orleans GM David Griffin sees. That fourth pick could be an excellent asset for the future. Getting young and improving players Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram to add to that number one pick who will most likely be Duke Forward Zion Williamson.

New York Knicks:
New York Receives:PF/C Anthony Davis
New Orleans Receives:2019 3rd Pick (RJ Barrett possibly), F Kevin Knox, C Mitchell Robinson

That third pick could be very valuable as former Duke teammates RJ Barrett (the potential third pick) and Zion Williamson (the potential first pick) could team back up in New Orleans. Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson could be young assets that New Orleans could use in their future plans.
